This page is intended to be a link to
information related to the Porter County, Indiana area that I have some
interest in. I became more interested after reading a book about the
history of Porter County written in 1912. The history at that time was
in a different framework than today. There are many Internet
sites with information about porter county.
Most are related to select areas or organizations. There
are the
museums, towns and cities, organizations, libraries . . .
This is quite random now, but it should become more organized in the future.
The following are some ot the links I currently have found.
- General Porter County History
- The Museum, originally called the "Old Jail Museum", is
undergoing a revival to make known to the community many of the
interesting items that are there. Broncho John, see below,
donated many of this personal items to the Museam including guns and
personal letters. There are many other items there, so much that
was put away and is just being rediscovered.
- NWIGS ( Northwest Indiana Genealogical Society )
- If you are interested in family history, this is an
organization to assist you. It is amazing to see how much
information there is out there, if you can just find it.
- Chesterton High School
- I came across this link recently and learned a lot about the
high school that I attended. It sure has changed a lot since
then. I remember when if you were not careful, you could fall off
of the stage when playing basketball in the "gym".
- Broncho John Sullivan
- This is an insight into a famous character that spent time in this area, and then returned to spend his later
years in Valparaiso after leading a quite interesting life. To
learn more about his life and see many of the items he donated, visit
the Porter County Museam.
